BROKEN FOOT!!!

It seems that some of you have not heard about my ‘little’ accident. It feels like ages ago (January 26, 2012), that I suddenly felt ill. I got up from my chair and as I was walking past the kitchen sink I was overcome with a wave of nausea … and I fainted (a virus, we think). I woke up on the kitchen floor with a broken foot. I broke two upper bones in my left foot, which apparently is quite unusual (I wouldn’t want to do anything normal). I also did some damage to the muscle on the right side of my foot. … On the bright side … I could have hit my head on the granite counters, which would have done more permanent damage.

I never realized how long a broken bone takes to heal, but my doctor says it usually takes 3-6 months. Obviously I wasn’t too impressed with that news. My foot is taking its sweet time healing, I’m still wearing my cast and getting around on crutches. Some days frustration gets to me, I just want to be able to do things and go places on my own (walking, shopping, etc). Thankfully, I have been able to feed my passion and accomplish a few studio sessions with the assistance from some great photography friends and my steno chair. I manage to manoeuvre around the studio pretty good on my wheels (it’s sort of like a mini wheel chair with the addition of some height control). I’m doing my best to be patient, and I will be able to take the cast off soon.

See you soon, and TAKE CARE, Loraine

AND BABY MAKES FIVE — SURREY / LANGLEY PHOTOGRAPHER

I photographed this family a few years ago when there were just four of them. Mom is my dog groomer and when I found out she was expecting we promptly set a tentative newborn session date. The date didn’t really work out, because Baby B came 3 weeks early! He came in to the studio at just 9 days old. We tried to take some individual newborn shots but we had some trouble settling him down so we took some family shots. He is one lucky boy to have two big brothers to look after him, they are so proud of him. He still hadn’t settled after the family photos were done, so we decided to set another time for him and his Mom to come back for the individual newborn shots. As you can see he behaved perfectly at his second session and we got some great images …. I’ve signed him up for my Baby Collection, so keep watching you’ll be seeing more of him as he grows thru his first year.

2012 Welcome in the New Year

I would like to wish you all the very best for a healthy and happy upcoming New Year.  At the studio, 2011 has been a very busy year, having welcomed many newborns into the world, peek-a-booed with numerous babies, chased several toddlers, and brought smiles to the faces of many families.  I am so blessed and flattered that you’ve chosen me as your family’s photographer, and I don’t take that lightly.

Photographs represent a tangible link to our past. I believe that everyone should invest in their family. My personal favorite image is a very large one of my family and I have it hung where I see it every morning as I come downstairs for breakfast. (I plan to create a new one this year, as we now have a new addition. He’s almost one now.) Forget that you don’t look perfect.  Don’t wait for little Katie’s teeth to grow in or miss that chance before Scott moves away. Don’t wait for the perfect time, do it now, before things change. Get out there, love your family, and let someone capture that love for you.

And … whether you choose to be professionally photographed by me, or at home with your point-and-shoot camera, take the time to be PRESENT in the memories that your children take into the future to remember YOUR part in their lives. Believe me, this is easier for me to say than do. Being the family photographer means that I’m almost never in our family photographs.

Have a prosperous and Happy New Year!  The studio reopens for sessions on January 9, 2012.  I’ll see you then, and look forward to capturing some adorable moments for you.

PORT MOODY SENIOR/MODEL PHOTOGRAPHER -MODEL PORTFOLIO

My niece came in for a portfolio session to start-up her acting career. Her Mom (my sister-in-law) and my 6-year-old grandson (my assistant for the day) came too. We had so much fun with this session, we chose 3 different locations and had multiple clothing changes. The session started at the studio where we had multiple clothing changes. After that we went to an open field, and then moved on to an urban setting. We all had a great time together.

Langley Surrey CHILDREN’S PHOTOGRAPHER – Urban Cowgirl

Little Miss ‘S’ turned 3 a few days ago, just in time too, she’s going to be a big sister. Her Mom spotted this pettiskirt & cowboy boots in my studio when we were planning her 2nd maternity session, and we quickly planned an impromptu birthday session for Miss ‘S’. We took some time on a Saturday afternoon a few weeks ago to take advantage of what was one of the last warm sunny days for us this season. We headed up the hill near the duck pond in our neighborhood park.  She was shy at first, but she quickly warmed up to us. She was dancing, climbing the fence and telling us that ‘she’ is a princess (which is totally believable, just look at the images we captured).
